Small Harbor Environmental Assessment Tool

part of the Sustainable Harbors & Marinas initiative.
Watershed: All
Project Lead / Organization: Delta Institute

The Lake Michigan Forum has created an environmental self-assessment to help commercial harbors understand their environmental impact and promote the implementation of best management practices. The best management practices listed in this assessment were drawn from a variety of sources, including the Green Marine Program, the Great Lakes Maritime Research Institute, the American Association of Port Authorities and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. This self-assessment also acts as a screen for third-party certifications, such as the Green Marine Program. If the facility has an interest in obtaining third-party certification, self-assessment will help determine if the facility is a good candidate.

This form is intended to be used by commercial harbors and harbor terminal operators to conduct self-assessments of their facilities. This assessment is intended as an educational tool. It is completely voluntary and has no influence or impact on regulatory matters. This self-assessment is not intended to be, nor should it be construed as, legal or regulatory advice. The self- assessment does not constitute a complete reference to state, federal or local laws. Implementation of the recommended best management practices does not ensure full compliance with the law.
